National Running Day is June 6

This photo was taken about one week before I was unexpectedly admitted to the hospital for a nasty virus. I was feeling happy and strong. I even got 2nd place in my age division. Then, out of nowhere, I was sucker punched by something I couldn’t control had me in pure misery.
I was in the hospital for four days. I couldn’t eat or drink. I felt helpless. My only saving grace was my husband being by my side the entire time. That, and the medicine that finally let me sleep a little. By the time I was released to go home, I had lost several pounds and my body was so weak that I could barely walk. Everything seemed like it took so much effort. It’s amazing how quickly the rug can be pulled out from under you. But that’s life. Things happen. It’s all about getting back up and rebuilding.
It’s been a few weeks since this all went down and I am feeling so much better. My running doesn’t seem like it’s “on”, but I’m still doin’ my thang. With the summer heat already making it’s mark on Phoenix, even my (way too) early morning runs are warm and slightly uncomfortable. With nothing other than the Arizona Road Racers Summer Series going on for the next few months, it can be tough to stay on track, which is why I think it’s time for another 30 day challenge!
June 6 is National Running Day, and what better way to start off a running challenge than to kick it off on a day when runners all across the nation will be hitting the pavement in celebration of this crazy sport we love so much? I’ll be posting updates here over the next few weeks with my progress, so I hope you’ll come back and check up on me.
