“Patience is a virtue.” “Good things come to those who wait.” I’ve been reciting these quotes to myself as I continue to heal from last week’s foot injury. As I celebrated Thanksgiving surrounded by family, I found myself being very thankful for the support I have in my life and my overall good health.
It’s been exactly one week since the injury and today was the first day that I was able to walk mostly normal on my left foot – full impact on my heel and everything! Plus the bruising and swelling are practically non-existent. It’s a great feeling to not be limping around as much, but I’m trying not to get ahead of myself. I know I’m not ready to test out running just yet. Instead, I’m living vicariously through my husband’s running, which has been tough for me. I’m happy he’s out there doin’ his thing, but I am jealous that I’m not out there too. I was able to get in a 12-mile bike ride this weekend and I made sure it was challenging enough for me to feel like it was a good substitute for a run, but I’ll be honest, I kept thinking about how much I wanted to be running instead. You always want what you can’t have, right?
I’d like to think my frustration stems from my passion and determination to achieve my goal and to maintain my health. This week will continue to be a challenge, but I’m up for it. I’m going to be cautious with my foot, but who knows, with the progress I’ve made in one week, I may be able to get in a run by the weekend. I’ll keep you posted! Until then, I’ll keep up with the ice and elevation once or twice a day and see how it goes.
