Week 4 Recap
I was a little concerned about my long run this past Saturday because I thought I had hurt my leg on my Thursday run. I was in quite a bit of pain, but I suffered through the 5-miles and hoped that not having a run scheduled on Friday would help me recoup in time to run on Saturday. By Friday evening, my leg was feeling good and I was ready to hit the pavement the next day.
I’ve felt good during and after runs before, but nothing like this one. The goal was to run a course from my house to a friend’s house who was hosting a fundraising garage sale for a charity supporting ALS research. I woke up around 6 am to eat a small snack and get ready to leave by 7 am. Just stepping out the door I could feel that the weather was perfect for the run and I was excited to get going. I set a goal to keep my pace between 9:45 and 10:00/mile, which was the best thing I could have done for myself. It was a nice, “easy” pace that allowed me to keep going and going and going. I finally stopped at a stop light around the 7 mile mark to take a drink of water. I felt great! I have never been able to run that far without stopping. The elation I felt (runner’s high, perhaps) fueled me even more to finish my run. When it was all said and done, I made it to my friends house in 1 hour 35 minutes, which is an average of 9:41 per mile. I know that’s not a record speed or anything, but I’m pretty darn proud of myself! As I continue my training, I’m hoping this run will stick with me and continue to motivate me.
This week, it’s all about preparing for the Pasta Party on Saturday. I have my runs scheduled and most of the groceries purchased. It’s going to be a good week!
