Day 12 – 30 Days of Running: Remembering My Most Memorable Run

September 12th, 2011 § Leave a Comment

Enjoying a Guinness in London!
This time a year ago my husband and I took our first (and hopefully not last) trip to Europe. We visited London, Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels. In London, I had my most memorable run to date. The weather was perfect. The scenery was amazing. It was early in the morning, so the city was calm and quiet and I felt like I had the streets of London to myself. I couldn’t have asked for a better run.

During my run this morning, I was trying to remember all the great things about that experience. It served as a great reminder of the highlights of my running and gave me hope for future runs that leave me with wonderful memories. I hope you all have something like this in your life (running related or not) that you can look back on and be taken over by the joy you felt all over again!

Day 9 – 30 Days of Running: Stubbornness Has It’s Price

September 9th, 2011 § Leave a Comment

Runners can be a stubborn lot and I’m no exception. It’s day 9 and for the past three days I’ve felt a slight pain on the top of my foot. I know that if I press my luck, I could end up with an injury… and yet I continue to run. I’m not sure what it is about running that even through coughs, colds, inclement weather and even injuries we rally and keep trudging along. Whatever it is, it’s a part of me and I embrace my craziness.

I’ll continue to monitor this pain in my foot, but for now, I’m sticking to my plan and will wake up tomorrow ready for more miles.

Day 8 – 30 Days of Running: Running Naked

September 8th, 2011 § Leave a Comment

There’s something about going for a run without my watch that puts me at ease. I remember a few years ago when I bought my first Garmin watch (which resembled a small cell phone attached to my wrist), I was so excited to finally accurately track my distance, which was pretty much all I used it for. Now, I’ve upgraded to the Garmin 405 and I still don’t know how to use all of its features, but I’ve become obsessed with it. What’s my time? How’s my pace? How far have I run? To be honest, my helpful running companion can cause me more stress during my run than I’d like to admit.

Stripping Down
Running “naked” is a term thrown about amongst runners and now I can see how fitting that term is for leaving the gadgets at home. Streaking, skinny dipping or just sauntering around the house (blinds closed, please!) are all forms of literally being naked, but it’s the emotions that go along with them that apply here. Freedom. Exhilaration. Running without the nanny on my wrist allows me to run freely and comfortably without any worries. I’m just running. Breathing. Thinking. It’s a great way to reenergize my love for running.

As for the other forms nakedness – I’m not sure I have the guts for those, but you only live once, right?!
